A THOUSAND TRUE STORIEs

Dreamers at heart

Music by Silje Nergaard

Lyrics by Mike McGurk & Jeff Wassermann

I’m back to chasing light

must be sure I keep in sight

how to change my lows to highs

and how to make my sunsets rise

you help that spark to glow

but if it fades well you just know

when to bide your time and when

to breathe it back to life again

...

follow

those dreams that seem so very far

still a lot of good ones in the jar

we were always dreamers at heart

...

so safe within our walls

we stay although the highway calls

round and round in circle dance

with nothing ever left to chance

Love and Life and music’s fine

this dance is ours, yours and mine

step by step we’ll find our feet

hoping hearts will skip a beat ...and

...

follow

those dreams that seem so very far

still a lot of good ones in the jar

we were always dreamers at heart

you don’t have to tell me where you’re going

ifsomething’s wrong you know you’ve got a friend

I´lll learn to live with never-knowing

when or if our roads will cross again

...

so below the stars above

falling in and out of love

letting go of shattered dreams

knowing all’s not what it seems

taking turns at being wrong

based on A thousand true stories

Music by Silje Nergaard

Lyrics by Mike McGurk

I believed that starry skies

would always dim our carefree days to night

and would guide us she said

that we would fear nothing

but now I see the flawless heart

whose only wish is to be right

feels how it’s beating for nothing

...

she told him everything got out of hand

and she lost touch with moments

they had planned

tried to make herself believe

she ’d never cared

but none of this is written there in stone...she said

it’s based on a thousand true stories

...

I can see that all the signs

I made myself believe I hadn’t seen

are what hurt us he said

there was no way of knowing

I wrote a play to fit the screen

put our love and names up there in lights

but the gap went on growing

...

he told her everything just fell apart

so he had done his best to

fool his heart

tried to make himself believe

he was alive

but none of this has come from me alone...he said

it’s based on a thousand true stories

...

we hoped that life would just stay in our hands

that doubts would disappear

and we would find

our way back to the love

that we had left behind

but none of this can happen on its own.. they said

Frozen

Music by Silje Nergaard

Lyrics by Mike McGurk

I know by heart each paving-stone on every street

and that the eyes of strangers are not mine to meet

the night is young and I have countless miles to trawl

but the glare of headlights shows me there is nothing there at all

neon signs can’t ever light the sadness at my heels

nor empty voices make amends for all the joy that living steals

and though the night is warm...it is the coldness that I feel

...

what can be done to warm a frozen heart

what does it take to make the loving start

...

I dreamed of love...that I would find it by and by

that luck would change and like an eagle I would fly

high above the city lights we’d circle there

that you and I would float as one upon the summer air

with nothing left to weigh us down..nothing to explain

that you would ask me where I hurt and soothe away the pain

please let it happen now so I can start to live again

...

what can be done to warm a frozen heart

what does it take to make the loving start

...

how to keep the dream alive

to watch another night retreat

another day arrive

and by the light of morning still believe that love survives

...

what can be done to warm a frozen heart

what does it take to make the loving start

...

tell me now how to keep the dream alive

to watch another night retreat

another day arrive

and by the light of morning still believe that love survives

...

what can be done to warm a frozen heart

what does it take to make the loving start

Come in from the garden

Music by Silje Nergaard

Lyrics by Mike McGurk

Come in from the garden

if there were a way of reaching you again I would

I’d put my arms around you never to let go

show you all the things I’ve understood

about the careless plans you laid

so caringly so I could shine

when you’re no longer here

...

while I danced and played

you held the weeds at bay

gave me a chance to win

but calmed my fear of losing

showed me where

to search and find

what I had been given

gave me dreams that I could hold

or leave behind

as I pleased

....

but that’s all past and gone

come in from the garden

and the glare of the light

come in from the garden, daddy, the world’s alright

...

you stand guard in case some hidden fear should come to call

ask for one of us by name

then wait there by the wall

I see you moving in between the days you long for

and those that leave no mark upon your mind

you’re fumbling in the dark

...

though memories still live on

come in from the garden

and the chill of the night

come in from the garden, daddy, the world’s alright

Nightroad

Music by Silje Nergaard

Lyrics by Mike McGurk & Jeff Wassermann

out on the night road

lost in your thoughts

replay our story and..

you’ll come across

words left unspoken

a hesitant kiss

was I really ever yours at all

how did it ever come to this

...

there was a love once

before you and I

a whirlwind that caught me

and swept through my life

a beautiful twister

with pain at its eye

though it left nothing there for me at all

there is a longing that won’t die

...

oh what a lie

what a heartless lie

I entered your world

left my heart outside

oh what a dream

thinking time would make it right

I can’t wash my hands

of the tears you cried

this heartless lie

...

out on the night road

wherever you roam

and though it be fruitless still

I need you to know

walked all these years with

regret deep within

I was never ever yours at all

how could I let the lie begin

Wayside song

Music by Silje Nergaard

Lyrics by Mike McGurk

come on sun

shine on me

shed a little light so that I get to see

why my will always stays undone

come on rain

pour on me

just cool me down and set my spirit free

soothe away the pain in me

come on wind

scatter me

I’m seeds of grain in your hand

just Iet me land somewhere

far away from dark despair

where I can walk

free of talk

in that fair place I’ll make my stand

and be smaller

than I am

come on rain

pour on me

cool me down…set my spirit free

soothe away the pain in me

While you were gone

Music by Silje Nergaard

Lyrics by Mike McGurk

later, later, later

I’ll start missing that boy

when the moment is right

I’m seeing the house through a new pair of eyes

even though he’s gone everything I see’s a prize

...

lazy, lazy, lazy

day after day after day into nights

as mountains of dishes keep growing in size

without his knowing looks to cloud my clear blue skies

 ...

oh.. I’m jumping for joy

I do love that boy

but he seems to disappear

when he’s not here

and I long for nothing at all

at my own beck and call

how brightly I shone

while you were gone

...

no sooner, sooner, sooner

has the echo of the closing door died down

before I start to feel completely at ease

it’s not hard to think straight when there’s no-one to please

...

choosing , choosing , choosing

what day after day after day has in store

I’m drifting along on a warm gentle breeze

life is a lock and I’ve just found my keys

...

oh.. I’m jumping for joy

I do love that boy

but he seems to disappear

when he’s not here

and I long for nothing at all

at my own beck and call

oh how brightly I shone

while you were gone

Old Madrid

Music by Silje Nergaard

Lyrics by Mike McGurk

when back-to-back sleeping

is cold to the touch

and the silence we’re keeping

doesn’t hold very much

when icey winds chase

every trace of romance

so far out of reach

let’s remember a dance

on an evening when

music captured our hearts

and the moment was ours …and made us a part

...

of you Old Madrid

our love was echoed by your walls

and every street led to us in Old Madrid

now when the city calls

our hearts relive the love and jooooooy

of Old Madrid

we’re back there

and…………..

...

live on a memory

and cling to a dream

pretend that our longings

are less than they seem

pine for those summers

when all was unknown

and stay there a while

though we know time has flown

since…. an evening when

music captured our hearts

and the moment was ours …and made us a part

 ...

of you Old Madrid

our love was echoed by your walls

and every street led to us in Old Madrid

now when the city calls

our hearts relive the love and jooooooy

of Old Madrid

we’re back there once more

Laura

Music by Silje Nergaard

Lyrics by Mike McGurk

cry out, Laura

make me hear

make it clear

all I thought that I knew

with my arms around you, Laura

I stood too close

to see what troubled you

I thought I knew you so well, Laura.....so well

...

you must free him

help him see

help him be

all he thought that he could

with his arms around you, Laura

he tried to crush the bad

and make things good

he thought he knew you so well, Laura

...

what a loss

what a prize

won’t you open his eyes

then lift up his head

say what has to be said

just put your arms around him, Laura

tell him that there were no signs he should have read

he thought he knew you so well Laura

...

hush now, Laura

we’ve let go

now we know

all was misunderstood

what became of it all...it was meant to be good

without our arms around you, Laura

we get to love

you the way we should

you thought you knew yourself so well, Laura
